What if we spoke of Christ with the same conviction the world uses to sell lesser things?

Recently, I visited an exhibition. Every booth had zealous salespeople. Their voices ring with bright urgency. Their hands waving, eyes shining, calling out :
“Grab this now!”
“Don’t miss this deal!”
“You’ll never get an offer like this again!”
And truthfully, most of us, if not every one of us, felt that gentle tug on our hearts. Even when we stepped in resolved to spend nothing at all, somehow the pull grew strong enough for our hands to inch toward our wallets. Something about their conviction, their boldness, their persistence wore down our resistance.
It made me wonder: If we carried even a fraction of that zeal for the gospel, would it be possible for people not to hear the truth?
Imagine if we advertise the Good News, not with manipulation or pressure, but with passion, urgency, and genuine belief in the value of what we’re offering. If we spoke of Christ with a joy and eagerness that said, “This is too good to miss!”, how different would our world look today?
I am not saying evangelism should mirror sales tactics. But their enthusiasm teaches us something: conviction moves people, and a heart that believes will not stay silent.
We all have limits, be it our time, courage, or emotional capacity. But what if each of us reached out to just one person? How many lost sheep might be home with us today?
And let me be the first to confess: I say this not as someone who is a master in this. I can chat with strangers perfectly fine, but put me in front of a non-believer, and suddenly I freeze.
Not out of shame, but because a swarm of “what ifs” suddenly fills my mind:
What if they ask something I can’t answer?
What if I stumble and say the wrong thing?
What if… what if… what if…
And before I know it, I retreat; silently convincing myself that this impossible mission ought to be carried by someone braver, wiser. They will plant the seed instead.
But perhaps that’s where I’ve forgotten an important truth: I am not alone in this.
Our God works through our weakness (2 Cor 12:9), not our eloquence (Exo 4:10-12). He is present in every conversation, every question, every hesitant step. For He is the one guiding our tongues. He is the one who will prepare the listener’s heart.
“…do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say. For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” (Luke 12:11-12)
Evangelism does not rest on our capabilities, for it is God who draws people to Himself; we merely open our mouths and show up (Exo 4:12; Jer 1:9).
“… do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.” (Matt 10:19-20)
Perhaps, that’s all that He asks of us. To have a willing heart, a little courage, and faith that He will fill in the gaps where our words may fail.
