Waiting on God

Waiting on God requires patience to see the end, and it is good that we pray for peace while in the waiting.

Waiting on God’s deliverance

While waiting on God to deliver us out of a difficult situation, we can think about what we can learn while we are in the situation. Similar situations tend to repeat until we learn the lesson. It could also be a trial to endure to produce our patience and character.

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” (James 1:2-4)

Thinking about what we can learn while in a difficult situation also helps us to reframe it or see it in a different or positive light, so that even though the situation has not necessarily changed, our mindset and attitude towards it can help us get through the season. Sometimes, we do not understand why we go through something in the moment, but knowing that God has a plan for each one of us and realising that we have to press on to find out why eventually, is a good shift in perspective that we can take. We also know that it all happens for our good.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Waiting on God’s answer

At times, we might have questions that we would like to ask God and requests that we would ask of Him. While we wait on His answer, we can keep in mind that He answers us, our questions, and our requests in His own perfect way, whether it be through prayer, sermons, the people around us, or things simply falling into place.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Waiting on God’s timing

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

God has His own time. Whether He answers us in a way we hope, or at a time that we expect, He does it in His own time. When the time is not right yet, we will have to wait. Often times, God is also working behind the scenes, and hence we may not see things happening at the time. However, we know that God’s time is ultimately the best. Why would we want things in our time when God is the One who created time? Let us find comfort in the fact that God knows all things from beginning to end and that His timing is perfect.
