Who Are You Tempted to Please?

Is it possible to find favour in both God and man?

Making friends and having fun can seem very important. It’s nice to be included, laugh together with people you care about, and feel like you belong. Sometimes, without noticing, we may start doing things just to fit in—even if those things are not pleasing to God.

The Bible reminds us that temptations are not always obvious, some are quiet and sneaky. For example, you might feel pressure to join in when others gossip, complain, or make unkind jokes. Or you might want to focus so much on doing well in school that you forget to spend time with God. More often than we realise, we want to please teachers or friends more than we want to please God.

So, how can we make the right choices?

First, we need to know what is right and wrong. God’s Word, the Bible, helps us understand what pleases Him. When we read it often, it’s like turning on a light that helps us see clearly.

Second, we can learn from people in the Bible. Mordecai is a great example. When others told him to bow down to Haman, he refused right away. He didn’t change his mind, no matter how many people kept telling him to do so. He also explained that he obeyed God. Because of his faith, God protected him and his people.

Like Mordecai, we can:

  • Say “no” quickly when something is wrong

  • Keep choosing what is right, even if it’s hard

  • Be brave and explain our faith kindly

Choosing God may mean we feel left out or different. But remember—God sees your heart, and He will always be with you.

Family Altar

Use these discussion questions and our prayer as a guide for your family altar.

Parents can lead the prayer and invite their children to repeat after them or encourage their children to take the lead, making family altar time a shared journey of faith.

Discussion Questions:

  • Have you ever felt pressured to do something just to fit in? What happened?

  • Why is it sometimes so hard to say “no”?

  • How can reading the Bible help you make better choices?

Prayer in Words:

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray.

Thank You for loving and guiding us.

Sometimes, we feel scared to say "no" when others want us to do wrong things.

Please give us courage and wisdom to choose what is right.

Help us to love Your Word and understand it better each day.

Teach us to be strong like Mordecai and to always please You instead of people.

Stay close to us and direct our hearts in all we do.

Hallelujah, Amen.
